Wife of the Governor of Anambra state and founder of Caring Family
Enhancement Initiative, CAFE, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, has received two
children whom her NGO supported for a cleft lip surgery at Nnamdi
Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi.

Mrs Obiano, who received the children accompanied by their families,
explained that the surgery would help the children to gain their
self-esteem and associate freely with their peers without any form of
social discrimination.

Amidst the scare raised by the rising number of COVID-19 cases in
Nigeria, the families of both kids who have under gone surgery
successfully now have a course to be happy .

Miss Chikamso Okechukwu, a ten-year-old child from Ichida in Anaocha
Local Government Area and Master Chinemeze Obiefuna, who is four years
old and hails from Umuerum, Ayamelum Local Government Area, both had
the lip deformity from birth, but were discovered separately and taken
for correctional surgeries late last year and early this year
respectively.

Both kids join hundred others who have had successful cleft lip
surgeries since the cleft lip and pallet surgery collaboration between
Smile Train, USA, and CAFE began over four years ago.

Addressing the press shortly after appraising the work done on the
children, Mrs Obiano urged parents who have children with such
deformity to bring them out as the surgeries are done free of charge.

She restated her belief in reaching out to the less-privileged around,
noting that setting a pace for compassionate charity remains an ideal
practice that guides her life.

The parents of the two kids, Mrs Eunice Okechukwu and Mrs Angela
Obiefuna, said that they had taken the children to different places
but could not find any solution ,adding that Mrs Obiano has restored
hope for brighter prospects for their children and families.
