As part of efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19, Anambra State government through the Covid-19 Protocol Enforcement Team has arrested and prosecuted more eighty persons for flouting Covid-19 safety protocols.

The defaulters were picked from commercial buses, tricycles, road sides, various junctions and roundabouts within Awka and environs.

The State Covid-19 Protocol Enforcement Team led by  the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Legal Matters Mr Chika Ekwenugo was accompanied by security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Anambra State Traffic Management Agency.

Speaking to the ABS, the leader of the team, Mr Ekwenugo expressed satisfaction  with the level of compliance on Covid-19 safety law and expressed the hope that with the enforcement exercise, there will be total compliance in the next few days.

Mr  Ekwenugo a lawyer called on Ndi Anambra to support the  efforts of the Obiano administration towards protecting them from the killer disease by strictly adhering to all safety protocols, which include social distancing, regular hand washing, wearing of face masks, among others.

The defaulters were taken to Magistrate Court Amawbia where the presiding Magistrate Mr Mike Anyadiegwu sanctioned  them to pay  ten thousand naira, seven thousand naira, five thousand, two thousand, and community service based on the matter presented before the court.
