Economic Activities across the State recorded a great boost, following the resumption of primary and post primary schools for the first term of the 2017/2018 academic session.

ABS Correspondent Gab Alokwe who went round Awka the State Capital to monitor the situation reports that a visit to the progressive line Eke Awka, where books and other education materials are sold, saw many buyers patronizing stationeries and book shops around the area, as most of them were parents and guardians who came with list of school materials to be purchased for their children and wards.

It was also observed that prices of school materials are currently cheaper than the previous years, following the strengthening of the naira over the dollar in the foreign exchange market.

A book vendor in the area, Mr Ugochukwu Agusionu, while comparing the prices of stationeries from what they were sold last year, said that the Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary which previously sold for two thousand five hundred naira now sells for one thousand eight hundred naira, a dozen of eighty leaves exercise book previously sold for one thousand four hundred naira now sells for one thousand two hundred naira.

Another book vendor in the market, Mr Ndubisi Ezechi was of the similar opinion while comparing prices of some of the school materials.

When ABS crew visited the UNIZIK temporary site Motor Park in Awka, few passengers were seen boarding vehicles, a situation which was attributed to constant heavy down pour.

Speaking to the ABS on the same matter, a staff of a transport Company in Awka, Mrs Ngozi Ifediora, attributed the low patronage of passengers to the rainy season and the use of internet facilities by many to transact businesses.
