Over nine hundred people across the state are targeted to benefit from the on -going free medical outreach at Umueri General Hospital.
The programme, organized by the medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigerian, Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital chapter is expected to last for three days.
Members of the Association who are mostly specialists in various fields of medicine are providing free medical examinations, drugs and surgeries among others.
The chairman of the organizing committee, Dr. Emeka Ezeama said the free medical service is part of events to mark their 2016 Annual General Meeting and a humanitarian gesture to give back to the society.
Dr. Ezeama assured that they have enough drugs and manpower to attend to all who seek to access the services.
The chairman of the Association, Dr Chidi Oranusi called on the federal Government to invest more in the health sector to provide necessary facilities, equipment and drugs that would meet the health needs of the people to discourage them from seeking Medicare abroad.
Also speaking , the Chief Medical Director of the Institution, Professor Igwegbe, represented by the chairman of the medical Advisory committee, Dr Evarestus Ofiadigwe noted that such medical outreach programmes which bring medical services close to the people also provide heavy relief to hospitals.
In their separate reactions, Professor Oguguo Ikpeze and a community leader, Chief Benneth Emeka, expressed satisfaction that many people are benefiting from the programme and called on other Associations and privileged individuals to emulate.

Dr. Ikpeze described the intervention as laudable noting that people of the area have been fully mobilized and sensitized to access the services.
Some of the beneficiaries, Mr John Moulokwu and Mrs Udenna Okwuchukwu thanked members of the Association for initiating the programme.
