WRITTEN BY EMMANUEL OKONKWO
It was a gathering of who is who at the late Mr Denis Chukwuka’s compound at Nnokwa in Idemmili South Council Area, as the son, doctor Obiora Chukwuka, organized post humous silver Jubilee for the late father .
The post humous silver Jubilee which attracted people from all walks of life was a moment of thanksgiving and sober reflection for the deceased family as well as Christians as it reminded them of life after death.
In a sermon during the memorial mass, the Archbishop of Onitsha Archdiocese, Most reverend Valerian Okeke, who spoke on the importance of thanksgiving in the life of every believer, stressed the need for Christians to always give thanks to God in all situations, saying that His goodness and mercy towards them cannot be over emphasized, and listed prayer, sacrifice, forgiveness, and alms giving as major ways through which one can appreciate God.
Most Reverend Okeke, while commending the family of the deceased for sustaining the legacies their late father left behind, called on Christian parents to train their children in the way and fear of God as it would help mould them into responsible citizens.
Speaking to the ABS, the only son of the deceased, Doctor Obinna Chukwuka, who described their late father as a unique and God fearing man, attributed his success to the late father’s efforts and doggedness as a good Christian father, and disclosed that the event is a way to celebrate him as a hero and thank God for his faithfulness to the family.
On her part, the daughter in- law of the deceased, Mrs Oby Chukwuma, lamented the death of her late father in-law whom she said, was a loving and caring man, though she was not opportuned to stay with him for long as he died few years after her marriage to his son, praying that his soul rests in peace.
Contributing, a friend to Chukwuka’s family, Mr Innocent Ochibili, who went down memory lane to narrate the contributions of late Mr. Chukwuka both in the church and the community , said the children are now reaping the fruits of his labour even as he advised them to maintain the legacies their late father left behind.
Highlights were special rendition by the choir, blessing of the deceased’s grave as well as cultural displays.
