Over a hundred aspirants have obtained nomination forms for the upcoming Anambra state Local Government Football Councils election which is scheduled for this Saturday July 25.
A total of 63 officers are expected to be elected, including chairman and two ordinary members in each of the 21 councils that make up the state and the elected members will in turn constitute the delegates to the state FA board election.
The Secretary of the Election Committee Onyedika Chijioke said the number of people that had declared their interest in the election was impressive.
He said the level of interest had shown that the election would be keenly contested.
Onyedika said some of the conditions for eligibility included possession of tax clearance certificates, a minimum of secondary school certificate and involvement in football administration for four consecutive years.
He said the election would take place in Awka and urged all aspirants to adhere to the guidelines for the polls.
“The turnout has been impressive and we expect that the election will be keenly contested. Everybody has an equal chance, provided they meet the eligibility conditions,” he said.
The Nigeria Football Federation had directed the state FA to conduct its board election following the three-month expiration deadline given to the Normalisation Committee set up by the NFF on April 10, which elapsed on July 10.
It was reported that the NFF on April 5, had ordered the suspension of the Anambra State FA election initiated by former Chairman, Mike Umeh, and Jude Obikwelu, his Vice-chairman.
This led to the constituting of the normalisation committee to conduct “credible and acceptable” elections.
The committee was also asked to organise the Federation Cup in the state.
