Reports say that Aston Villa are closing in on deals for Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor and Nantes midfielder Jordan Veretout.
Adebayor was said to be at Villa’s Bodymoor Heath training ground on Tuesday and he is ready to secure a loan deal, with the Midlands club paying his wages in full.
The Togo striker is set to once again link up with Tim Sherwood, who brought him in for the cold when he took over from Andre Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane mid-way through the 2013-14 season.
The former Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid striker had been frozen out by Villas-Boas, but returned under Sherwood to score 11 Premier League goals, including two on his comeback against Southampton.
Villa are also poised to seal a deal for Veretout, despite rival interest and a heftier transfer bid from Leicester City.
Nantes president Waldemar Kita confirmed on Tuesday that Veretout is poised to join a “great English club”, but later lamented that the Foxes have made a bigger offer than Villa.
“We will lose €5m [if he moves to Villa Park],” he told L’Equipe.
“He’s made his choice and I’ll follow that. They’re haggling over the details. [Villa] must pay attention because if they haggle too long the player will pass under their noses. They have until [Wednesday] to make a decision.”
“I am an idiot. I could think only with my mouth and make it an auction, but I don’t want to go against the kid. He’s never given us any s***, he’s played the game until the end, and, unlike some others, he is never in a rotten mood.”
It is expected Veretout will fly to England with his agent, Fabrice Picot, to seal the move on Wednesday.
