The Maiden Edition of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, National Media Summit in Abeokuta the Ogun State Capital has ended with the thirty-six state Councils of the NUJ including the F.C.T. in attendance.
The Media Summit with the theme, the media and National Unity was convened as a result of threats from militants and ethnic based groups demanding for separate sovereign nations.
In his speech the governor of Ogun state Senator Ibikunle Amosu, called on members of the pen profession to promote the unity of one United Nigeria.
In his address, the National President of NUJ Abdulwaheed Odusile noted that the Media Summit is in furtherance of the repeated commitment to national unity aimed at providing a platform to discuss the various challenges facing the country.
After five days of exhaustive and elaborate deliberations and interactive sessions, the Summit resolved that the Media has a constitutional mandate to moderate affairs of National Unity and development.
The conference commended the federal government for efforts made so far towards meeting the deadline for digitization and called for more proactive measures to met the deadline.
Anambra state delegation led by the state NUJ Chairman, Sir Emma Ifesinachi and Secretary Emma Udeagha had other delegates which include Monic Okechukwu, National Treasurer NUJ Chigozie Chileta and Anambra State Treasurer of the NUJ Ekwi Ajide.
