Ndi Anambra have been urged to key into the one million tree planting initiative of the state government to avert desertification and make the environment more beautiful and conducive to live in.
The managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Awka capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, who is in charge of the tree planting project, Architect Michael Okonkwo, made the call during an exclusive interview with the ABS in his office in Awka.
Architect Okonkwo, who described the tree planting project as part of the present administration’s commitment to fighting desertification and erosion in the state, said it would not only help control erosion but would also beautify the environment.
He disclose that the project would be officially flagged off on the twenty-seventh of this mouth, by his Excellency Chief Willie Obiano, as part of the numerous activities to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the state.
Architect Okonkwo, noted that the aim of the official flag off of the project is to create awareness on the importance of forestation, and to encourage residents of the state to key into the initiative so as to make the vision of planting a million tree from now to December a reality,.
He listed step, masquerade, fruit, queen-tree, among others, as species of trees to be planted.
