Governor Willie Obiano’s exploits in the areas of agriculture is exciting both government and non-governmental groups and individuals, with the member representing Ayamelum in the state legislature, Mr. Uchenna Okafor, demonstrating his approval in practical terms.
Mr. Okafor just gave out over one thousand bags of fertilizer to farmers drawn from the eleven wards in the constituency at Central School, Ifite-Ogwari.
Mr. Okafor who noted that Agriculture holds the key to the future of the state explained that the measure would boost agriculture in the constituency and change the economic landscape of the state.
The lawmaker regretted that Nigeria is facing economic downturn today because the country neglected Agriculture which used to be the main stay of the nation’s economy and commended Governor Obiano led administration for investing meaningfully in Agriculture.
Mr. Okafor also distributed funds to various cooperative societies within Ayamelum constituency to support their economic empowerment programmes.
In his remark, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters, Barrister Ikechukwu Onyeabor said that the distribution of fertilizer by Mr. Okafor was a step in the right direction as Ayamelum is an Agriarian community.
The traditional ruler of Ifite-Ogwari, Igwe Alphonsus Ofuebe who commended the lawmaker for making positive impact on the lives of his people, urged the federal and state governments to invest more in Agriculture to arrest the economic down turn facing the country.
Some of the beneficiaries, Sir Cypril Ike and Kingsley Onyejekwe said that the fertilizer would boost their careers as farmers.
