The government’s disapproval for Urban slums and ghettos in all parts of the state, is total, and those disobeying the order have a lot to lose.
Last weekend’s demolition of a three story building illegally constructed at Trans Nkisi Phase three layout, Nkwelle Ezunaka by the Anambra State physical planning board, is a case in point.
The General Manager of the Board, Mr. Joe Agbaizu said that the exercise would serve as a deterrent to people who erect illegal structures on government layouts without approval.
He described the developer as a trespasser who has not shown any approval or proof of valid title to the land.
Mr. Agbaizu said that the board will initiate legal procedure to recover the cost of the demolition from the developer.
Addressing the press earlier at the demolition site the executive Secretary, Oyi Local government physical planning board, Mrs. Ngozi Atiseli said that the developer was severally served with stop work order, at various stages of the development, but that he remained adamant.
It will be recalled that Trans Nkisi layout which was validly acquired by the state government had earlier been allocated to individuals but land speculators had continued to trespass in the layout despite several warnings by the state government.
