The State Government has presented certificate of recognition to the traditional ruler of Nzam in Anambra West Council Area, Igwe John Ogugua.
Governor Willie Obiano presented the certificate during a brief ceremony at the governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.
Presenting the certificate, Governor Obiano who described peace as paramount for any meaningful development to ensue in any human society, said as a result, his government is resolving traditional rulership tussles in the communities.
Having leadership at the community level he noted, will ensure effective grassroot mobilization and coordinated development at the rural places.
The governor urged the traditional ruler to rule his people with the fear of God and to avoid indulging in acts that can bring the traditional stool to disrepute.
In his remarks, the Chairman, State Traditional Rulers Council and Traditional Ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe thanked Governor Obiano for his genuine interest in resolving crises among communities in the State and advised the traditional ruler to identify with the Council to be able to keep tab with government programmes for the communities.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters, Mr Greg Obi explained that every necessary process was followed in the selection of the traditional ruler, reminding him that the same government that gave him certificate can retrieve it if abuses it.
Responding, the new traditional ruler, Igwe Ogugua thanked the state government for recognizing him and promised to use the certificate to pursue the peace and development of the community.
Formal presentation of the certificate by the governor formed the highpoint.
