The Traditional ruler of Atani in Ogbaru Local government Area, Igwe Augustine Ngoddy, says Nigeria will overcome the present economic challenges, if Nigerians would venture into agriculture as another major source of income instead of oil alone.
Igwe Ngoddy, who was speaking at a cultural festival in his palace, urged the people to tilt towards government’s policy of rice production.
The traditional ruler said though, their community stands as one of highest yam producing communities in the south Eastern States, there is need for all to answer the clarion call of both the state and federal governments on massive rice production.
According to him, it is now in the history of the nation that Anambra state remains number one state to have embarked on vegetables export adding that the high demands for Anambra rice across the country clearly attests to its quality.
Igwe Ngoddy, expressed hope that if all citizens take to farming, in no distant time, the country would produce enough to feed the masses as well as export to other countries of the world.
While appealing to government at all levels to assist farmers through incentives, which would encourage mechanized farming, the traditional ruler advised farmers to form co-operative societies to enable them receive from government.
He urged other state governors to emulate Governor Willie Obiano’s security initiative to better the lot of their citizens as, according to him, security improves production and ensures adequate protection of lives and property of citizens.
