There will be rice glut this year. At least, in Anambra State.
This is because one of Anambra State’s largest rice farming concerns, Coched Farms, commenced its 2016 rice harvests this week. Coched Farms, a subsidiary of Coscharis Group, is one of the largest farming concerns attracted to Anambra State by the Willie Obiano administration.
Coched Farms’ operations are largely based in Anaku, Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The second large-scale rice producer, also attracted by the Willie Obiano administration, Joseph Agro Limited, JOSIAN, is expected commence its 2016 harvests shortly.
The harvests of these two large concerns and the thousand of outgrower farmers is expected to go a great way in drastically reducing, and possibly, eliminating Anambra State’s demands for imported rice.
