Ndi Anambra have been called upon to key into Agriculture to ensure food sufficiency in the state, as that remains the only way to survive present economic recession in the country.
A former Chairman Nnewi South Local Government Area Honorable Chieloka Okoye, representative of Stine Industries, Makers and Millers of Anambra Rice, made the call during an ABS phone-in programme “Insight” anchored by Comrade Don Onyenji.
Honourable Okoye, who noted that the Anambra rice which has attracted patronage from within and outside the country, stressed the need for more hands to join in its production in order to ensure its sufficiency both for residents consumption and exportation.
Honourable Okoye, also regretted the over dependence of the country on oil sector, said that if the residents would re-channel their minds and efforts to agriculture, the present economic down turn would become a thing of the past in no distance time.
For his part, a public policy analyst, Mr. Mich Obiajulumeze, who frowned at the cost of rice in the market recently, assured Ndi Anambra of price control in no distant time, as according to him the state expects bountiful rice produce this year, courtesy of the Obiano led administration.
Contributing, the senior Special Assistant to the Governor on youth mobilization, Engr. Tony Uzekwelu, described Governor Obiano as a working governor, calling on the youths to key into the farming initiative as he is ready to support farmers.
Mr. Mich from Owerri Ezikeala, Chukwujekwu from Nnewi, Mrs. Obi from Amawbia, among other callers during the programme contributed and suggested more means of improving the agricultural sector for bountiful produce.
