Governor Willie Obiano has called on Ndi Igbo to embrace the Akulue Uno Initiative, for enhanced development of the South East Geo-political zone.
He made the call during the inauguration of the management board of the Alaigbo development Foundation, Trust Fund, at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre in Awka.
The Alaigbo Development Foundation, is a socio-cultural organization, founded after the International Collegium which was held in March 2014 for the sole purpose of the development of the South East.
Since its inception in 2014, the foundation has spearheaded the call to Invest homewards which led to the setting up of a Trust Fund to the tune of two hundred million naira.
The members of the management Board of the Trust Fund, headed by the Emeritus Archbishop of the defunct Province two of the Anglican Communion, Most Reverend Maxwell Anikwenwa, included the Chairman of the Enugu State Council of traditional Rulers, Igwe Lawrence Azubike, former President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr Dozie Ikedife, former Minister of Power, Professor Barth Nnaji, President of Alaigbo Development Foundation, Professor Uzodimma Nwala among others.
Speaking at the event, Governor Obiano, represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke, noted that Ndigbo have the potential to develop themselves if the Akulue-Ulo Initiative is sustained.
He called on Ndi Igbo to pool their technical and financial expertise to develop the area.              Â
The Chairman on the occasion and former Minister of Interior, Retired Captain Emmanuel Iheanacho called on Ndi Igbo to see the need to invest in Igbo land, as that is the only way through which the problem of marginalization will be solved.
Also speaking, the President of the group Professor Uzodimma Nwala stated that if affluent Ndigbo could make at least ten per cent of their investments in Igbo land, the region will be self-sustaining.
