Scholars have advocated the revamping of the school system by placing more emphasis on vocational education at both secondary and tertiary levels.

The system tagged “the dual system of education”, which they said will bring unparalleled development to the country formed the crux of a lecture delivered at the Annual Pope John Paul the Second memorial Lecture series in Awka.

The lecture which commenced twelve years ago, was initiated by the Pope John Paul the Second Major Seminary, Okpuno in Awka South Local Government Area with the aim of promoting the ideals and values of her patron Saint who was Canonized a Saint ,on the twenty-seventh of  April, 2014.
This year’s theme is “Broad-Based Education and the challenges of the Modern World.”
Delivering a keynote address, the Vicar-General of the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, Reverend Father Amuluche Nnamani, stressed the need for education to be tailored to perform the role of  transforming the mental, moral, and manual expertise of the people.

He reiterated the call for schools to concentrate on a particular specialized area so as to bring the much needed development to the sector.
In a paper titled “the role of educational establishments in the search for answer to local needs”, a professor of Curriculum Studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Grace Offorma, canvassed for revamping of the current educational system in the country in a way that students will be graded based on their individual performances
Earlier in an address, the Rector of the Institution the Very Rev Father Benjamin Ewelu, stated that this year’s lecture is to highlight the need to promote a practical and vocational based education system, where graduates will proffer solutions to the challenges facing the modern society.
