Local Government Education Authorities in the State have been charged to ensure routine monitoring and supervision of schools in their various areas.
The State House of Assembly Committee on Education gave the charge when it paid a visit to Dunukofia Local Government Area Education Authority in Ukpo.
The Committee which spoke through its Deputy Chairman, Dr Timothy Ifedioramma frowned at the lacadestical attitude of some teachers in public schools especially in riverine communities to work, which it noted is unhealthy for the education sector.
The Committee which charged the Local Government education authorities to always live up to its responsibilities revealed that its oversight visit to local government education authorities was to brainstorm on how Anambra State could retain its first position in West African Senior School Certificate Examination and NECO.
In her address, the Secretary for Dunukofia Local Government Education Authority, Mrs Francisca Egenti called for the recruitment of more teachers in almost all the schools in the local government Education Authority for enhanced teaching and learning.
She equally informed the committee that Dunukofia Local Government Area has been performing well in the area of Home Grown School Feeding programme going on in the state because of close monitoring and supervision.
She noted that the cordial relationship existing between the local government education authority, schools, communities and philanthropists in the area has made the schools, to receive more learning facilities, sports wears and perimeter fencing.
