Nigeria marked its fifty-seventh independence on October first.

Entertainment News took note of how Anambra’s Residents marked the day.
On the eve of the October first celebration, the city of Awka started bubbling with activities as at 1pm, some members of the Hausa community took a peace walk with banners bearing such titles as “We want Peace” and many other inscriptions.

However, the evening came to a climax at a chorale concert by a group called Gentle Voice Chorale done in partnership with Anambra Broadcasting service.

One of the highpoints of the evening was a performance of the 1960 National Anthem and a special poem by Mr. Felix Nwabisi.

At the event, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, represented by the Permanent Secretary in his office, Dr Daniel Ezeanwu, called for the use of arts and creativity to promote peace and development in the country.

On the October first proper, many people were dressed in the colours of the Nigerian flag, engaging in acrobatics and a cross section of prayers for the nation were said in different churches.

The celebration continues with the observance of public holiday yesterday.
