Governor Willie Obiano has been conferred with the Chieftaincy title of “Ife Anambra” by traditional rulers and people of Anambra Central Senatorial District.

The Chieftaincy title conferment ceremony took place at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

Government House correspondent kenechukwu Ofomah was there and reports that the 56 communities of Anambra Central were well represented at the event by their leadership as a mark of their endorsement of the honour given to Governor Obiano.

In a welcome remarks, the Chairman of Anambra Central Traditional Rulers Council and traditional ruler of Ukwulu, Igwe Peter Uyanwa, said in conferring the title on the Governor, the traditional rulers considered the Governor’s achievements in the socio-economic development of the state in the areas of security, prompt payment of workers’ salaries, investments promotion, agriculture, people’s welfare among numerous others.  

Responding after he received the title, Governor Obiano thanked the people for the honour done to him and promised that his government has a lot of laudable programmes in stock for them.

He stated that under his watch, the traditional institution in the state will continue to get their due recognition, noting that through his choose-your-project initiative, he aims to sustain effective grassroot development in the communities.

The Governor urged the people to continue to support his administration, assuring them that he will not disappoint them.

In a vote of thanks, the Traditional ruler of Okpuno, Igwe Sunday Okafor, said the Chieftaincy title is a reward for outstanding exploits in the state governance, noting that what distinguishes the Governor from his contemporaries is his humaneness.

Highpoint was the formal conferment of the title on the Governor by all the traditional rulers in the area.
