The Nigerian Library Association, Anambra State Chapter, has concluded its two day 2017 conference cum annual general meeting with emphasis on

the roles of library in information dissemination and economic development of a nation as well as the need for Librarians’ daily improvement to be able to serve the public better.

This was the major center point of series of the paper presentations during the last day of the conference organized at Kenneth Dike E-Library Awka.

Speaking to newsmen, the State Chairperson of the Association, Doctor Uju Nwaforizu, who expressed satisfaction with the participation of the members in this year’s event, advised them to always equip themselves academically in order to be able to impact positively on the students.

Earlier in a paper presentation on “Provision of Information for Economic Development of Nigeria: Roles of Library”, a Librarian from Bayero University Library, Kano state, Mr. Yahaya Abdullahi, maintained that no nation develops without information, and stressed that the library which is entrusted with the responsibility of provision of relevant, proper and accurate information for the public, should be able to have reliable materials for reading and research works as well as capable workers who are ICT literates to measure up with the present computer age.

On their parts, Mrs Uju Ibida and Mrs Matina Chiemego, from the Anambra State Library Board, who spoke on the Impact of Electronic Resources on Information Service Delivery in Public Libraries for Educational Development, harped on the need for digitalization of public Libraries in the country to make it fit into the global modern trend in reading and learning.

Contributing, the Acting Director of the State Library Service, Lady Nkechi Udenze, called for more awareness creation on the importance of Public Libraries in the society, urging the Library workers to organize events for the masses within the Library premises as it would help in attracting more patronage to the sector.
