WRITTEN BY NGOZI OBILERI
A renowned Nollywood Actor, Mr Obi Okoli, says the move for the establishment of a film village in Anambra should be accelerated to launch the state among the front line states where films are made.

Mr Okoli made this assertion while interacting with our correspondent Ngozi Obileri after touring the world class digital studios of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, in Awka.

The Ogboji born artist and a lecturer of Theater Arts, at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, recalled those days when films were produced abroad and observed that movie industry has blossomed in Nigeria remarkably.

While commending what he described as undaunted improvement and innovations in Nollywood, noted that commercialization has remained the bane of the industry as many producers aim more at making profit, advising them to cherish more the act and the message for a better society.

He traced the advent of Nollywood to 1990, when the first Nollywood “living In Bondage” was produced and said that establishment of a film village in Anambra would go a long way to create more employment for everybody including the aged.

On the world class digital studios of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Mr. Okoli expressed satisfaction with what he saw and commended Governor Obiano for establishing the edifice and placing what he called the right person at the helm of affairs in the establishment.
