Communities have been urged to ensure protection and proper maintenance of government facilities in their areas.

The Commissioner, Ministry of Power and Domestic Water Development, Mr. Obi Nwankwo who gave the charge while handing over Solar Powered Water Schemes at Umunnachi Health Centre and Community Primary School Nise, said Governor Obiano’s administration is determined to provide more social amenities to the people.

The solar powered water scheme with filter was built under the rehabilitation of failed boreholes in the state Phase One as was initiated by Governor Obiano.

Mr. Nwankwo represented by a Hydro Geologist in the Ministry, Mr. Chukwuemeka Okwuogu said the schemes were neglected and abandoned and state government decided to rehabilitate and hand them over, for the beneficiaries to take full ownership.

The Commissioner lamented that there were a lot of water schemes that were not working due to negligence and the mind set, that the projects are for the government to maintain, and advised the Communities to manage, operate and maintain the scheme under Water Consumers Association.

The traditional ruler of Nise community, Igwe Romanus Iloh on behalf of the community said the Governor has brought democracy dividends to all communities in the state including provision of street lights, security, and water bore holes among others, calling on Ndi Anambra to support the government by paying their taxes to enable the government do more for the people.

 

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Power and Water Development, Honourable Titus Aguike said they use the rehabilitation process to educate and sensitize Ndi Anambra to secure all facilities to serve the purpose they were initiated, noting that Governor Obiano will like to extend his developmental stride to other communities.

Also speaking, the President General of Umunnachi community, Barrister Ike Odionu commended Governor Obiano for the rehabilitation of their water scheme, noting that its of great importance to the hospital as they need it for sanitation and requested for more developmental projects in their community.

Formal handover of the projects to the community by the Commissioner formed the highpoint of the programme.
