The state Police command is to commence a weekly physical exercise in all the area commands across the state for its personnel.
The Commissioner of Police, Garba Umar disclosed this when he led Police Officers and their wives on an early morning exercise yesterday .
Â
During the exercise organized by the Police Officers Wives Association, POWA, the men flanked by their wives jog from the Police Headquarters Amawbia to Eke Awka market and back to the state Command.
Â
Addressing the men after the exercise, CP Umar stated that the importance of exercise in the life of a Police Officer can never be over emphasized, hence the command has decided to close work by two o’clock in the afternoon every Wednesday for Officers’ exercise.
Â
He cautioned that any Officer who closes by two o’clock and leaves without participating in the exercise will be sanctioned.
Mr. Umar explained that five minutes exercise every day will make an officer healthier and more alert and advised them to make exercise one of their everyday routines for a longer life.
Â
On her part, the Chairperson of POWA, Hajia Hadiza Umar, said they decided to embark on the exercise with their husbands because they know exercise can make them healthier.
The exercise was an opportunity for men of the command to let off steam as they sang and danced to their various songs.
