The Parish Priest, Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Awka, Reverend Father Dr Peter Eche, has charged those in positions of authority to re- examine themselves and identify why they want to serve .
In a homily at during a Mass, Reverend Father Eche noted that most people striving to lead are doing so not to offer genuine service but seeking opportunity to enrich themselves.
He said such people abound in churches, government , associations and other leadership positions , calling on such people to have a rethink to avoid attracting punishments to themselves
The Catholic Priest further noted that monetary gains rather than genuine desire to serve God has given rise to proliferation of prosperity churches, while some Christians who patronize such are those running from pillar to posts in search of miracles , signs and wonders.
He however warned them that Christ knows His true followers, adding that a true Christian will always carry his cross and follow Jesus no matter the situation or circumstances.
Reverend Father Eche who also spoke on idol worshiping, noted that anyone who prepares charm for protection is an idol worshiper.
He further admonished all to keep God’s commandment for their good and the good of the society , and to persevere in fulfilling their Lenten obligations of fasting , praying and giving alms.
