Prostate, an organ found only in men, is part of the male reproductive system. It is about the shape and size of a walnut.
The job of the prostate is to make fluid that contains sperm or semen. This fluid protects the sperm when they travel towards a female’s egg.
Men have unique issues concerning their prostate such as inflammation or infection of the prostate, known as prostatitis, non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate, called benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer.
It is an established fact that the average man pays less attention to his health compared to the average woman. Men are more likely than women to drink alcohol and use tobacco; make risky choices and not see a doctor for medical check-ups.
Many men are not aware of what their prostate is, what it does or when to seek medical help. It therefore becomes very pertinent to explore effective ways to make men, especially those from the age of forty and above to begin to discuss their prostate with their doctors to catch the problem early and start fixing it.
Men need information and support to deal with this aspect of their health. What are the roles of women in a man’s prostate health? Women have a bigger role in a man’s prostate health. Women understand how important it is to take care of themselves and regularly go to the hospital for medical checks.
Whether it is their husband, father, brother or son, getting them to talk about prostate health with a doctor will, at least, get them thinking about and realizing that this is a serious disease that can be fought successfully, if detected early.
Understanding too that, even though prostate cancer is a man’s disease, women, who love their men, are greatly affected by it also. The tentacles reach of a cancer diagnosis goes far beyond just the person affected by it.
A woman who is a wife or partner of a man diagnosed with prostate cancer will have emotional, psychological, physical and spiritual reactions to this diagnosis and this is why a woman can be a man’s biggest influence on getting him to take care of himself for her.
Learning what the prostate gland is, what exactly are prostate health issues and how they are detected and treated are very important.
Understanding prostate health risk factors and what dietary issues can increase or decrease that risk are equally important.
Thus, women must make sure that the men in their lives go for medical checks and testing, if necessary. If you have to, make the appointment for him and go with him to it; please do.
Many of the major health risks that men face can be prevented with healthy lifestyles which include regular exercise, healthy diet, not smoking, stress reduction and alcohol consumption in the moderate range, if at all. Regular check-up and screening tests can spot disease early, when it is easier to treat.
Diet and lifestyle modifications can reduce the risk of prostate cancer development and progression and can help men with prostate cancer live longer and better life.
The things women do in men’s life with regard to men’s prostate health can literally save men’s life.
