WRITTEN BY DAVIDSON O. OKEKE
By all standards, Governor Willie Obiano is a precious divine gift from God to Anambra state.
He is a dedicated, focused, resolute, unassuming and firm leader sent to develop the State, embracing the wisdom and fear of God and Love for the people. To God be the glory and may God continue to give him wisdom to focus his attention to the down trodden in the next four years.
No doubt, Governor Obiano, in his first four years, stepped up sports development in the state. The days of mercenaries in sports development is over and glorious days are being rekindled in Anambra. Ndi Anambra would, however, be appreciative if the new cabinet concentrates on these: Anambra has a beautiful State Capital without a befitting sports stadium complex. Government is appealed to build a befitting sports stadium in the capital city for the state to continue to be the light of the nation in sports.
It would be recalled that in the early seventies, Awka town provided over twenty-three hectares of land for the Awka Township Sports stadium. The proposed stadium site is the largest area of land for sports stadium complex in the South-East States. However, since after the land provision and demolition of the old facilities, nothing concrete has been done on the site.
Awka and surrounding towns have produced world record holders in athletics, football, wrestling etcetera, such as Mary Onyali-Omagbemi from Mbaukwu and Regina Okafor from Awka. They are Queens of the track all over the world. Anambra equally has many international sports men and administrators. No doubt, it was the present crop of Ndi Anambra that made Eastern Nigeria excel in sports from 1970 to 1998.
Therefore, Awka is the most suitable site for stadium, considering accessible land structure, availability of water, security, sustainability of football clubs in the gate takings and transportation at any time of the day.
Equally, pensioners in Anambra State were suffering and being strangled to death every day by hunger and diseases because of nonchalant attitude and behaviour of some of our past leaders who labeled the pensioners dead woods. But now, over the horizon, an image of the serving Governor, Chief Willie Mmaduaburochukwu Obiano, is seen waving to the down trodden, the sick, the hopeless and the shattered over thirty-five thousand pensioners in Anambra State, smiling and holding out olive branches in his two hands. Thank God, the dead bones can rise and live again.
The Almighty God that sent Obiano to Anambra State, surely, was to rescue the pensioners. We are hopeful that sooner or later the pensioners shall receive full harmonization of their pensions. The great alert Governor is our only hope. God will bless his family and add more happy years to him and his entire family. It is the doing of our beloved Almighty God.
Above all, it is not by might nor by power, neither is it by knowledge; rather, it is by the power, wisdom, might and knowledge of God that made Governor Obiano to approve the building of Ukwu-oji road passing through Awka to Ifite-Nibo, linking the Agu-Awka ring road.
The most affected villages in Nibo and the entire people of Awka and Nibo town are happy and that is why they voted en mass, giving APGA about ninety-five per cent of their votes during the recent elections. The great palms of God will carve Obiano’s noble route of glory, as the farm crops from Nibo will revitalize the supply of foodstuff in Awka City.
Ndi Anambra appreciate immensely God’s wisdom, power and actions in Obiano’s true and effective governance. We praise God for all his achievements. We are happy that no detractor or godfather has diverted his determination, resolutions, firmness and focus to print his name in the solid sand of time. We pray for God’s guidance in Obiano’s on-going vigorous supervision of projects in Anambra Sate.
The Mighty Lord will hold Obiano firm and the wisdom of God will not lose His hold on him, forever and ever, a-men.
