History was made on Sunday, May 20, 2018 when members of Bubendorff Memorial Grammar School, Adazi-Nnukwu Old Boys Association rolled out their drums to honour and celebrate one of their own,

Chief Sir Victor C. Umeh, distinguished Senator representing Anambra Central in the National Assembly.
The event started with a Pontifical Mass, officiated by Most Reverend Dr. Peter Okpalaeke, on behalf of the Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor. The Mass was preceded by facility tour of some projects and infrastructural sites within the school premises, including the renovated old school block ‘A’ building; WAEC hall; refectory; newly completed perimeter fence – the great walls of Bubendorff.
Others are the new chapel project, being sponsored by Senator Umeh; new administrative block complex with Alumni National Secretariat and office, being sponsored by Chief Dr. Sir B.O.B Ugonnabo, the BMGS Alumni Association National President. Other attractive sites visited were the Ultra Modern Bubendorff Memorial Grammar School Sports Centre. Special features of the imposing Sports centre include a main bowl football field with grass and eight tracts; pavilion for over two thousand sitting capacity; a basket ball court, volley ball court, double lawn tennis court, badminton court, dressing rooms and convenience rooms. There is also a mini hall for Gym and indoor games as well as bore hole, mini-eatery and parking lots among other facilities. An amazing site for a two hundred room unique Ultra Modern hostel block complex was also shown to the guests by the Manager of the School, Reverend Father Theodor Ekwuem.
At the civic reception, which preceded the facility tour, the chairman on the occasion; High-Chief Dr. Sam Maduka Onyishi; MON, Onwa Nsukka, and Managing Director cum Chief Executive Officer of Peace Mass Transit, said he was highly elated as an Old Boy of the school to chair the great occasion, and re-lived his stay in the school as a student.
Welcoming the guests, the National President of the School Old Boys Association, Chief Dr. B.O.B Ugonnabo, said the occasion was to honour and celebrate one of their own, Senator Victor Umeh, who distinguished himself in academics, community, state and National Leadership. Chief Ugonnabo recalled Senator Umeh’s legacies as a student, who specialized in track and field events.
He said that Umeh was a School Librarian, Member of School Choir, Debating Society, Red Cross Society and Press Club, adding that, more importantly, the Senator passed out of the school in flying colours as the best graduating student in 1980, with eight Alphas and 1-credit. He praised Chief Umeh for being worthy Ambassador of his Alma Mata.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nkem Okeke, testified the value-oriented leadership qualities of Chief Victor Umeh and said he would be remembered in the annals of Political History of Nigeria as an indefatigable defender of democracy, fighter for justice, equity and rule of law. The Deputy Governor said that without consolidated leadership position taken by Chief Umeh; APGA would not have made such in-roads to produce two Governors for Anambra State, one in Imo State, past senators, members of House of Representatives and State Assemblies in some parts of the country. He called on current students of BMGS to imbibe the virtues of hard work, discipline, fear of God and selfless service which Chief Umeh acquired while in the school.
Earlier, Most Reverend Dr. Peter Okpalaeke disclosed that Chief Umeh merited to be honoured, celebrated and revered by his own people, adding that it was in recognition of the rare leadership qualities exhibited by the Senator wherever and whenever opportunity availed him that His Holiness, the Supreme Pontiff, Pope Francis the First, in December 2016, conferred on Chief Umeh the Papal knighthood of Saint Sylvester (KSS).
Many guests that attended the function including, State Chairman of APGA, Sir Norbert Obi, the Managing Director/CEO of ABS, Nze Uche Nworah, among many others, all commended the well planned and executed event to honour Chief Umeh, who all agreed, has made numerous contributions in nation building, humanitarian service and philanthropy. These, they said, brought honour and fame to his Alma Mata – Bubendorff Memorial Grammar School.
To God be the glory for such fulfilled accomplishments in the just concluded grand civic reception packaged for a consummated political bulldozer of our time; Chief Sir Victor Umeh, Ohamadike, Ugwumba Anaocha, Ebube Ndi-Igbo, among other chieftaincy titles bestowed on him by over thirty traditional rulers.
