Over twenty -seven million naira worth of equipments have been procured by IFAD Value Chain Development Programme to further strengthen the State Soil and Seed Testing Laboratory.
The seed and soil testing laboratory situated at the Agricultural Development Programme office in Awka is in line with Governor Willie Obiano’s implementation of the state Agricultural blueprint.
Inaugurating the seed and soil testing lab, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanization Processing and Export, Mr. Afam Mbanefo, said with Governor Obiano’s assurance of bringing in more equipment, the state farmers are sure of increased yield and business boom.
Mr. Mbanefo who enjoined farmers, stakeholders and input providers to maximally utilize the laboratory to achieve its full purpose, noted that more seed multiplication centres will be developed for the state to achieve standardization of its products.
The State Programme Coordinator, IFAD VCDP, Mr. Nnamdi Agwuncha, said they supported the ADP in establishing the Morden seed testing laboratory to ensure that primary production in the Value Chain is strengthened to support the agricultural improved livelihood of the citizens.
Also speaking, the State Coordinator, Standard Organization of Nigeria, SON, Engineer Nwaoma Olujie who described standardization as the bedrock of any agricultural development, noted that it starts from the planting up to harvesting through the time all necessary things are completed for export.
Contributing, the Agricultural Development Programme Manager, Mr. Jude Nwankwor while thanking the IFAD VCDP for their priceless support, assured of its judicious use and sustainability.
Highpoint of the event was the official commissioning by the Agric Commissioner Mr. Mbanefo.
