Communities have been advised against dumping of refuse on water channel and unapproved excavation of sand and other harmful practices which have adverse effects on the environment as well as people.

The advice was given during a Town Hall Meeting of World Bank team and Nanka Community , held at Umudala village when the team paid pre project visits on erosion sites in Nanka, Orumba North Council Area.

The World Bank team leader and Consultant, Dr. Odili Ojukwu, said the town hall meeting was critical before the commencement of World Bank’s intervention on erosion sites which includes to liase with the communities on challenges which might hinder the projects among other issues.

Dr. Ojukwu advised the people to give the team maximum support so as to ensure smooth commencement and execution of the project and cautioned them against indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

The traditional ruler of Nanka, Igwe Godwin Ezekunie, pointed out that erosion has ravaged Nanka community but with the visit of the World Bank team and their scheduled engagement with the people, hope and respite are surely on the way.

A Community Leader and the state President Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, noted that erosion has been ravaging Nanka town for a long time , noting that it is a thing of joy to host the World Bank team to a town hall meeting assuring that maximum cooperation will be given to the team to ensure that their work is seamless.

The town hall meeting featured an interactive session where members of the community bared their minds on issues relating to erosion.
