As part of its effort to improve the standard of education in the country the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation,
NNPC schedule for competitive events that would culminate in the grand finale of its 2018 National Science Quiz competition has been released.
Speaking to Abuchi Nwozor in a telephone interview, the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the NNPC, Mr Ndu Ughamadu, said this year’s grassroots segment of the competition, comprising participation at local government and State levels, will hold between Wednesday thirteenth and Thursday twenty-first June in all local government headquarters and State capitals respectively.
He gave timelines for zonal competitions that would culminate in the National Finals and Grand Finale scheduled for September twenty-fourth and twenty-fifth in Abuja as follows, South-South Zone, Monday July second, in Asaba Delta State, South-East Zone, Wednesday July fourth in Awka Anambra State, South-West Zone, Friday July sixth in Ibadan, Oyo State, North-Central Zone, Monday July ninth, in Ilorin Kwara State, North-West Zone, Wednesday eleventh July in Kaduna, Kaduna State and North-East Zone, on Friday July thirteenth in Gombe, Gombe State.
The Group General Manager of the NNPC in charge of Public Affairs Division said the Quiz Competition remains a major Corporate Social Responsibility programme of the Corporation, adding that impacting the lives of students at impressionable age is a mission the Corporation is proud of.
According to Mr Ughamadu the competition which was designed mainly for students in the nation’s secondary schools has impacted positively on the intellectual attainment of young Nigerians in addition to providing financial succour to successful contestants who have been placed on scholarships throughout their university education.
