Music lovers have called on musicians to begin to reconsider their roles as charge agents in the society.
Respondents who spoke to ABS ahead of today’s World Music Day expressed dissatisfaction that recent songs being released are dominated by sex appeals and soft sells instead of using it as a tool for charge.
Miss Ada Okonkwo, a highlife music lover said in recent times, most singers only, use their songs to promote quest for materialism and immorality and urged music makers to reconsider their contents as they occupy a powerful place in the society .
For another music lover, Mr. Peter Edekobi who told the ABS he is an ardent lover of songs by Pyhno and Flavour , emphasize that with the level of influence of present day hip hop musicians on young people, they must use their tools to send positive messages to their millions of audience.
A septuagenarian, Chief Solomon Maduka who recalled that musicians were major players in reinforcing societal norms and values in the old days, regretted that musicians of today have failed in that responsibility .
World Music Day celebrated in over one hundred and twenty countries on twenty – first June every year is a day founded by a former French Minister for Culture, Jack Lang in 1982 to promote music culture and create deeper Interactions amongst people .
On the day, free concerts are organized while in some countries, citizens are urged to play music in public while musicians play for fun and not payment.
