The World Bank and the African Development Bank in conjunction with Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project in Anambra State,

have embarked on a work plan to build access roads and markets in rural areas leading to major farmlands.

Speaking during a sensitization programme at Ojoto ldemili South Local Government area Headquarters, the State Coordinator of Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project, Mr Joe Onyejekwe said that the State Government had forwarded data of all the rural farm roads to the World Bank.

Mr Onyejekwe who disclosed that the work plan was to maximize agricultural production in the State, said that it has been discovered that many food crops were wasting because there were no access road to farmlands in the affected areas.

He said that few people who manage to get to the farms, purchase such produce at high costs, there by discouraging farmers from further investing or maximizing their farm produce.

The State Co-ordinator said that Awkaetiti, Nnokwa and Alor were the benefiting communities from Idemili South while Obosi benefitted from Idemili North Local Government Area.

Mr Onyejekwe explained that the essence of the visit was for the communities to properly conduct themselves, support the project by co-operating with the government in bringing the desired development which would create jobs for the people.

The Transition Committee Chairman, for Idemili South Local Government Area, Mr Don Unachukwu thanked the project team for choosing the three communities in the Local Government Area in the first phase of the project.

The sensitization programme was attended by Traditional Rulers, Presidents-General, youth leaders, Women and Market leaders from the benefitting communities.
