Work is in progress at the Ozalla farmland, Abagana affected by erosion menace.
The work is presently at the retaining wall stages. According to the Transition Committee Chairman, Njikoka Local Government Area, Mr. George Ozoh, who monitored work on the site, the project being handled by Anambra State Government, when completed will bring a lot of relieve to the people of the area.
He commended Governor Willie Obiano for his intervention, saying that even when erosion control is capital intensive and beyond the state, the government has been massively providing the funding required.
In spite of the rains, a handful of workers were seen busy engaging in one form of task or the other at the site.
It was also observed that the gully at the back of the nearby Ozalla Primary School was being sand filled, with a drainage also being constructed to prevent further collapse.
Site Engineer, Mr. Godwin Offor said they commenced work at the site in the last three weeks and that it had been progressing smoothly.
On his part, the President-General, Abagana Welfare Union, Sir Ike Onwuadi, reiterated the community’s efforts to control the erosion to include bamboo tree planting and ban on stone mining in the area, expressing joy that the state government has come to their rescue.
