Anambra state government is installing an electronic case management system in the Ministry of Justice for easy assessment of cases and quick dispensation of justice.

The state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Uju Nwogu disclosed this during a special court session for the 2018/2019 legal year opening ceremony at the state’s High Court in Awka.

The state’s Attorney General who emphasized on the need for quick dispensation of justice in the state, said that the Ministry has initiated several bills to help in the actualization, some of which the state House of Assembly has passed into law, and noted that machinery has been put in place to checkmate the lackadaisical attitude of some state counsel in handling cases assigned to them.

Barrister Nwogu commended the state Chief Judge for creating three new Judicial Divisions of the High Court of Anambra state at Neni in Anaocha, Atani in Ogbaru, and Umunze in Orumba south Local Government Areas, which according to her will go a long way in decongesting the Courts and assist in no small measure to enhance quick dispensation of justice in the state.

In his ruling, the state Chief Judge, Justice Peter Umeadi who commended Governor Willie Obiano on his support to the state’s High Court, assured that the Courts will stick to equity and justice in the discharge of their duties as the judicial arm of the government.

In an address a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Professor Ilochi Okafor while explaining that the independence of the judiciary is paramount under the rule of law, called for joint efforts of the Bench and Bar against physical assault, abuse, intimidation, threats and blackmail of legal practitioners by law enforcement agencies.

On his part, the Chairman of Chairmen of the Eight Branches of Nigeria Bar Association in Anambra state, Barrister Gabriel Moneke, called on the state government to make courts environment more conducive by providing them with air conditioners and generating sets for efficient administration of justice in the state, while encouraging their colleagues to show more commitment, embrace hard work and eschew laziness to make legal profession retain its pride amidst other professions.

In a contributing ruling, the Chairman Magistrates Association of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, Chief Magistrate Esther Ughanze canvassed for provision of residential quarters for Magistrates in the state, noting that it would ensure their security and protection .

In a remark the Acting Chief Registrar of the State High Court, Nnamdi Mbanefo while describing the legal year ceremony as a period of stock taking, assured Ndi Anambra of improved services from the judiciary, and called for more support of the state government and general public to help them in the discharge of their duties.
