Structures at Eke Awgbu market, in Orumba North local government area, have been upgraded with over twenty- nine million naira worth of infrastructure.
The stalls and stores which were constructed by the IFAD Value Chain Development Programme , have been handed over to benefitting farmers for full utilization.
Also completed and handed over to them is a modern toilet facility.
Inaugurating the structures, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export, Mr. Afam Mbanefo said that the projects are aimed at uniting and empowering all the IFAD VCDP members when the programme eventually winds up.
The Commissioner represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Emenike Ezinando who charged them to rent the shops at a very affordable rate, announced that they will sink and reticulated water borehole to enhance effective sanitation.
The Transition Committee chairman, Orumba North council area, Honorable Ify Obinabo who spoke through Honourable Peter Nwafor assured that council would continue to promote civility and environmental neatness.
The State Programme Coordinator, IFAD VCDP, Mr Nnamdi Agwuncha who charged them to put the structures to good use, announced their readiness to install cassava processing plant in same site.
While urging them to take full ownership of the structures to achieve its purpose, Mr Agwuncha implore them to take good care of the projects and ensure its security.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Cluster chairman, IFAD VCDP Orumba North, Mr Chukwuemeka Ifediche, while appreciating the gesture promised it’s judicious use.
The event climaxed with the official handover of the keys to the beneficiaries.
Similarly, Oye market, Farm Settlement Igbariam in Anambra East council area has received intervention of twenty-nine million naira worth of structures.
The structures are ten lock-up stalls, fourteen stores, two warehouses and modern toilet facilities.
The structures which were constructed by IFAD VCDP, have been officially inaugurated and handed over to the beneficiaries.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Vice President, Igbariam Progress Union, Chief Marcel Iferika said the structures gave them a sense of belonging and promised proper management of the structures.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the cluster chairman for IFAD VCDP Igbariam cluster, Mr. Caius Eboh described IFAD VCDP as a very transparent intervention programme that is committed to its aims and objectives.
