The Federal Government has declared Monday next week as public holiday in commemoration of the Nation’s fifty-eighth Independence Anniversary.
A statement by the Minister of Interior, Retired Lieutenant-General Abdulrahman Dambazau, in Abuja, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Mohammed Umar congratulated Nigerians on the anniversary, urging them to sustain President Muhammadu Buhari’s effort at maintaining and strengthening the unity and peace of the country.
The statement emphasized government’s commitment to promoting national unity, economic growth, social and political development based on democratic principles.
It added that in the past fifty-eight years, Nigeria had made a lot of progress and positive impact not only on the lives of her citizens but also on infrastructure development as well as international relations.
