South East governments have been urged to work out stronger economic collaboration to strengthen the economic base of the region.
Speaking in Awka while reacting to the recent report from the Debt Management Office Abuja which listed Anambra state as the least indebted state in the country, the state President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Damian Okeke Ogene said such cooperation would enhance exchange
of ideas and encourage the Governors to emulate productive and viable initiatives of each other.
Chief Okeke Ogene noted that the DEMO’S report was a testimony of Governor Willie Obiano’s prudent and efficient management of available resources and commitment to good governance.
He said the Governors of the zone should also look inwards to effectively harness the untapped potential in their various states to open more windows of economic opportunities and create employment opportunities for youths to discourage illegal migration while level of infrastructural development should be scaled up to meet the demands of the day.
Also speaking a community leader, Dr Mike Omenugha said Governor Obiano deserved commendation for upholding probity, accountability and transparency in governance.
Dr Omenugha noted that despite the fact that the state is low in federal allocation and not an oil producing state, the Governor has continued to meet government’s responsibilities to the people with scarce resources including regular payment of workers’ salaries and pension.
He called on residents of the state to carry out their civic responsibilities through regular payment of taxes and levies urging investors to explore the emerging business opportunities in the state to expand their investment under the present conducive atmosphere and strong security network.
