Some persons displaced by ravaging flood in Anambra West, on Umueze Anam-Mmiata road need urgent government assistance as they need evacuation.

They currently lack potable water, food, shelter and toilet facilities.

The Umueze-mmiata road is currently flooded, causing the people to seek shelter on the bridge as some of them have since mounted tents on the road side.

They said that they defecate inside the river, which also served as their source of drinking and cooking water.

The people are also exposed to dangers of being attacked by dangerous reptiles like snakes, crocodiles, hippopotamus because they are surrounded by water.

The situation is the same at the Community Primary School, Umueze Anam, where a good number of displaced persons were currently accommodated.

Some people are also trapped in the flooded areas with little or no means of moving out and further challenged by lack of good drinking water, food and toilet facilities.
One of the flood victims, Mr. Innocent Okoye who sought refuge at the Community Primary School, Umueze-Anam, recounted his experiences.

He said he lost virtually everything he possess to the flood and his house in the village is submerged too which was why he came out to seek refuge and shelter.

When asked why he didn’t relocate his family to the Holding Centres, open to the people of the local council in Anambra East, Mr. Okoye said that he was not aware of any such arrangement.
He, then, appealed to Government to come to their aid by sending evacuation team to their area.
