The traditional Ruler of Isiagu community, Igwe Augustine Nwankwo, says parents have a big role to play to protect and propagate Igbo language and culture by teaching their children the language wherever they are.

He stated this, during an ABS Radio Phone in Programme, “Anambra Talks”. According to the traditional ruler of Isiagu, Igbo language and culture can only be promoted when Ndigbo let their children know who they are and where they came from, regardless of where they live.
Igwe Nwankwo noted that the current practice of Igbo people preferring to dress in other peoples cultures and pattern disregarding their own is unacceptable as it tend to suppress who they are, adding that time has come for Ndigbo to dress like typical Igbo men and women as the Yorubas and Hausas do, so that they can easily be recognized anywhere as Igbos.
On the on-going celebration of new yam festival in various communities across the Igbo land, Igwe Nawnkwo described new yam festival as a platform for communities through their traditional rulers and groups to appreciate God for the life they have.
He also spoke on the current face-off between the government and labour union in the country which he said, should be quickly resolved through dialogue as many activities in the country have been paralyzed.
Igwe Nwankwo expressed sadness that the wages of the Nigerian labour force is the lowest compared to other countries of the world and enjoined the federal government to do the needful in settling the matter amicably.
Callers on the programme, include Mr Sunday from Amaetiti, Chief Ezeafulukwe from Ihiala and Chief Anthony Umera from Zamfara State, observed that the continuous neglect of Igbo language should be addressed frontally, while the celebration of the new yam festival can be expanded to become a tourist attraction.
