It was a colorful celebration of unity and brotherhood as Okpala Descendants Union of Amichi Community in Nnewi South Local Government Area, marked her maiden edition of Amichi Day celebration.

The ceremony during which some illustrious sons of the Union were recognized for their immense contributions to the development and progress of the community, took place at Didi ground, Amichi.

Okpala Descendants Union comprises Obiagu, Obiofia, Ihuachasi, Ebenator and Eziama villages who are all offspring’s of Okpala the first son of their great ancestor, “Okotu”, one of the components of Amichi community.

The event attracted sons and daughters of the villages both at home and in the diaspora, as well as friends and well wishers who came to felicitate with them.

In a remark, the Traditional Ruler of Amichi community, Igwe Alphonsus Ezeoke, commended the descendants for their contributions towards the development of the community and called for the replication of such an event in other villages of the community as according to him, such will help
in instilling sense of brotherhood among the villages.

In his address, the President of the Union, Sir Bernard Aforka, noted that the event was aimed at reigniting the spirit of oneness amongst the descendants and celebrate their ancestor “Okpala” who during his days stood for brotherliness, understanding and integration of not only the town but of all the descendants of “Okotu” the father.

The Vice President of Amichi Development Union who hails from one of the descendant villages , Sir Ebele Umeojiaku said that the recognition of some of their illustrious sons and daughters during the event was to motivate them and others into selfless services for humanity, and urged the awardees not to relent in their good works.

In an opening remarks, the Chairman on the occasion Barrister Bertrand Nnakenyi, expressed happiness that the descendants still maintain the lead in all ramifications both in education, business and other human endeavours, encouraging them to continue to set pace for other
villages and towns in the area.

Others who spoke at the event including Former Nigerian Consul General to South Africa , Ambassador Uche Ajulu-Okeke, Engr. Cyprian Obigbo and Mr. Donatus Obiora expressed hope of greater unity and love in the Union and town in general.
Those that bagged awards and titles during the occasion including Chief Anselm Aforka, Chief Emma Umeohia and the wife, Lady Uche Umeohia, Chief Mike Umeh, among others pledged to sustain the tempo of their selfless services for a greater and better society.

Match past and dance by women of the five villages that make up the Okpala Descendant Union added glamour to the event.
