Anambra State government has pledged to reclaim all roads devastated by flood in parts of the state.
The Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor made this known during an on-the-spot assessment of the level of damage on some of the roads.
Among the roads visited were the Aguleri-uno-Aguleri-Otu Oil Rigy road in Anambra East Council Area and the Otuocha-Umuezeanam-Ibaji-Nzam federal road in Anambra West Council Area.
According to the ABS team, eighty percent of both roads were under water while people living along the now flooded road have been forced out their homes by the flood .
Engineer Ifejiofor said that the roads have been under water for over one month now but assured that government will swing into action as soon as the water recedes.
Commissioner Ifejiofor explained that the situation is not man made but a natural disaster that can happen at any time , noting that the experience has exposed government to measures to take while rehabilitating the road to avoid future occurrence.
He advised those still hanging around the flooded area to move to holding center near them to avoid unnecessary risk.
Speaking at Umueze Anam end of the Otuocha -ibaji -Nzam road, a man affected by flood Mr. Igboanugo Nwabueze lamented their loses calling on government at all levels to come to their aid as according to him, all their livelihood as well as their residential buildings are under the water.
Meanwhile, some of the residents of the area were seen displaying what was left of their farm produce for people to buy.
