Chief Honourable Sir John Iwuno was born on April 17, 1954 to Late Chief Ofornyelu Iwuno of Amansokwe kindred, Agbudu Village, Nando, Anambra East Local Government of Anambra State. He attended Saint Joan of Arc’s Primary School, now Central School, Nando in 1963 but could not finish due to the Civil War. He later went back to complete his primary education in 1973 and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate with distinction.
In 1975, his uncle, Chief Nwokike Akwaeze, took him to Zuru, Kebbi State, as an apprentice on Patent Medicine. Due to his zeal for education, he enrolled as a student in British American Academy and obtained Diploma in Store Keeping. In October 1978, he was settled by his uncle and John moved to Minna where he established his own business as a patent medicine dealer.
Still zealous for education, he secured admission into Government Technical College, Bida, Niger State where he obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1982. Combing education with business, Chief John Iwuno set up some business enterprises such as Ofornyelu and Sons Nig. Ltd, Ofo Pharmaceutical Company Ltd, Nofor Nig. Ltd (dealers in caterpillar spare parts), Bwari Interior Decoration Ltd. among others.
Chief Honourable Sir John Iwuno is a member of Oganudo age grade as well as a title holder in Nando and a member of Igwe-in council, Nando. He is presently the palace secretary of Nando Traditional Institution of Eze Odieve the fourth of Nando. He is a knight of Saint John International, Chairman CMO Saint Joan of Arc, Nando; and Chairman, CMO-Aguleri Zone.
Chief Honourable Sir John Iwuno is a political guru who has used his positions to transform the politics of our time and is therefore politically relevant both within and outside Igboland. He has held and is still holding many political positions, including: Publicity Secretary of the defunct Nigerian People’s Party (NPP), Gwari Ward, Minna, Niger State between 1983 and 1984; Member, Professor Jerry Gana Campaign Organization; PDP Igbo leader in Ketreen Gwari Ward; Chairman, Nando Development Union (NDU), Minna, Niger State and Chairman, APGA Nando Ward one. Others are: Coordinator, APGA Solidarity Movement, Anambra East and West; State Deputy Coordinator, APGA Solidarity Movement and Transition Committee member Representing Nando Ward one.
Chief Honourable Iwuno has proved himself as a worthy philanthropist who is using his resources for the betterment of mankind and development of Nando Community in many ways. He connected electricity to his kindred, Amansokwe and has been paying the electricity bill of Agbudu Village Nando since 2017 till date. Sir John donated millions of Naira for the completion of Saint Joan of Arch Catholic Church, Nando which is to be dedicated on October 7, 2018. Also, He single handedly constructed a section of Nkwo Nando Market at the cost of thirty million naira, which is being commissioned today.
Chief Honourable Iwuno has equally marshaled out youth empowerment programme as an addendum to the market commissioning as well as empowering Nando youths with tricycles, that is, Keke, Sewing Machines and Shuttles. He procured kits and uniform worth over five hundred thousand naira for Nando Vigilante Group.
Chief Honourable Sir Iwuno is happily married to Lolo Igwe, Lady Christiana Onyedikachukwu Iwuno (Nee Udenze). The marriage is blessed with wonderful children. Today, we say Bravo to Igwe Council and as we rejoice with him and his family, we pray that the Almighty God will continue to guide, protect and prosper them and every Nando man working for the development and progress of the town in Jesus Name, Amen.
