The State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress recently joined their
counterparts world over to commemorate the 2018 International Day for Decent Work.
Speaking on the significance of the day, the State Chairman of the
Nigeria Labour Congress Comrade Jerry Nnubia, said the Day aims at
ensuring that decent work must be at the center of government
achievements to bring back economic growth and build a new global economy that puts people first.
Comrade Nnubia urged Federal government and other critical
stakeholders to fast track the process of the ongoing negotiation on the new National minimum wage through the tripartite National Committee so that a new minimum wage will soon come on stream.

He called on government at all levels and employers of labour to remember that decent work has a fair income and ensure security in the workplace.

Comrade Nnubia urged State governments to harmonize the salaries of both the State, local government and Health workers and drew the attention of the government to the non remittance of Contributory Pension Scheme being deducted from the worker’s salary since 2014 when
the law on contributory scheme was passed in the State.

The theme for this year’s World Day for Decent work which is celebrated on seventh October was “Change the Rules.”
