A former head of State ,General Abdulsalami Abubakar says Education is a major tool for conflict resolution.
General Abubakar was speaking while delivering a key note address during the second International Conference of Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe.
The former Head of Stste who was represented by Reverend Father Ochado Ahachado said that education plays an indispensable role in ensuring a peaceful society that breeds good ethical behavior, socially committed and reliable citizen for transformation and progress.
General Abubakar called on leaders in the society to give Education its pride of place in the struggle for peaceful co-existences .
Earlier in his remarks , the chairman on the occasion , Dr. Humphrey Bosah said that importance of peaceful co-existence cannot be over emphasize hence the choice of the theme for the conference, “Education and Global conflict resolution.
He expressed optimism that the outcome of the conference would usher in peace and brotherliness among inhabitants in the society.
In an address, the Provost Nwafor Orizuj College of Education Nsugbe Dr. Ify Osegbo said the choice of the theme of the conference became necessary as conflict remains one of the challenges facing the world today.
She stated that over eighty per cent of cases in the society are as a result of conflict stressing that Education stands as a major tool to curtail, prevent and manage the scourge in the society.
In a lead paper presented by three Scholars, Professor Anthony Muwagga from Uganda, Dr Jude Asika from University of Porth Harcourt, and Professor Jacob Ayantayo from University of Ibandan harped on the role of quality Education , and religious tolerance in conflict management.
They also highlighted the importance of religious dialogue and tolerance in ensuring peace and progress in the society, as according to them it will reduce the cases of religious conflicts.
In a vote of thanks, the Director Research and Publication Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe Dr. Anwuluorah Patricia, thanked the participants and lead paper presenters and expressed hope that the communiqué that would be raised at the end of the conference will be
adopted by stakeholders to achieve total conflict management .
