The State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts has mandated Anambra East, Onitsha South and Aguata Local Government Authorities to always follow due process in all their financial transactions.
The Committee made the assertion while verifying the audited accounts of
the Local government areas for 2016 financial year.
The Committee which spoke through its Chairman, Mr. Charles Ezeani
frowned at a situation where Local Government authorities in the state
do not keep their financial records straight, thereby discouraging
transparency and accountability in Local Government administration.
The Committee mandated heads of various departments of local
governments in the state to rise up to the challenge of keeping their
Departments alive by embarking on projects that could generate revenue
and make local government viable.
It called on former local government chairmen who are still in possession of their local governments properties to return them to their Local Government’s Authority.
In a vote of thanks, the Transition Committee Chairman, Aguata Local
Government Area, Chief Eze Echesi applauded the Committee for living
up to their constitutional responsibilities, assuring that they would
key into reforms introduced by the committee in the interest of Local
governments in the state.
