The Anambra state Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with World Health Organization, has kicked off a five day National Training of Trainers on Basic Guide for Routine Immunization Service Providers in the state for optimal performance.

The event which is ongoing in Awka, drew health workers from the various Health Centers across the state.

The five days training for health workers which seek to sharpen the minds of health providers on the basic immunization guide on the use of vaccines to prevent illnesses such as poliomyelitis, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, Tetanus, yellow fever among others.

Declaring the training open, the Executive Secretary Primary Health Care Development Agency , Dr Chioma Ezeenyimulu pointed out that the training which is residential, sponsored by the World Health Organization, WHO, acknowledged the importance of the training to the introduction of some new vaccines, thus the need to educate the health workers on mode of action, preservation and planning of the vaccines for proper use as well as to promote good working relationship between individual health facilities.

Dr Ezeenyimulu who advised the care givers to utilize the opportunity of the training to refresh their knowledge in the health sector,
equally charged the state citizenry to enroll in the ongoing health insurance scheme by the state government for quality health care
delivery.

In their various remarks, the WHO representative Miss Chinyere Ebede
and her UNICEF counterpart, Mrs Ndidi Nwosu attributed the numerous awards to the state Health Sector to the achiviements of health workers, assuring that the training will further address the underlining gaps and
challenges in facilities in the Local Government levels.

Earlier in an address of welcome, the Head of Department Immunization and Disease Control Dr Nnamdi Uligbafusi expressed delight with the training saying that it will strengthen the minds and update the
health workers on new trends in the profession and enable them replicate the knowledge garnered.
