A Nigerian man, Edirin Okoloko, has been officially sworn in as a Judge in the State of Washington, USA.

His swearing-in ceremony was held on Saturday, weeks after his appointment by Governor Jay Inslee, Governor of Washington.

Gov. Jay Inslee appointed the thirteen year veteran of the county’s prosecutor’s office to replace retiring Judge George Bowden.

Okoloko was born in Nigeria, and received law degrees at the University of Benin and the Seattle University School of Law, according to the Governor’s office.

He served as a law clerk for former Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Michael Downes, who retired this year.

Okoloko has prosecuted murders, sexual assaults, child abuse and elder abuse.

In his speech Governor Inslee said Edirin has a clear dedication to the legal profession and a successful history of bringing justice to some of the state’s most vulnerable crime victims and will be an excellent addition to the bench in Snohomish County.
