The remains of late Chief Joe Billy Chukwuka Ekwunife has been laid to rest in his compound at Irueze, Mgbago Ezi-Abba village  Abba,  Njikoka council area of the state.

 

The Requiem mass for the deceased attracted dignitaries from all walks of life including Governor Willie Obiano, the clergy, friends and well wishers who converged to pay their last respect.

Late Chief Ekwunife was the former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, ANSIPPA and National President of Christ the Kings College Old Boys’ Association worldwide among others.

 

Delivering a homily, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor who described death as necessary end to  all mortals, charged Christians to live  exemplary life worthy of emulation and advised the children of the deceased to toe the footstep of their late father and live in  unity throughout their lives.

Commiserating with bereave family, Governor Willie Obiano who was represented by Secretary to the State Government,  Professor Solo Chukwulobelu said that late Ekwunife was a man of repute,  lamenting that his death was  a  great loss to the society.

 

Also speaking, a frontline Politician, Chief Joseph Okonkwo said that late Ekwunife was his friend who always helped the needy noting that his good deeds on earth are immeasurable.

 

The deceased’s immediate younger brother,   who is the Senior Special Assistant to Governor on hospitals and Chairman, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Sunny Ekwunife described him as generous man who has touched many lives especially in his community Abba, promising to maintain his legacy.

 

The first son of the deceased, Dr Calvin Ekwunife described his late father as a great leader and philanthropist, noting that many  people across the world have benefitted from him and pledged to toe his footstep.

 

In their separate  speeches, a  former Commissioners for Information, Ogbuefi Tony Nnacheta and the Commissioner for Environment, Ecology and Beautification, Architect Michael Okonkwo, described late Joe-Billy as a pillar of many parts  who had lived a life worthy of emulation, and advised the family to take solace in God.

 

Other dignitaries that graced the funeral were the State Head of Service, Barrister Harry Udu, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Sir Willie Nwokoye, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Anambra Broadcasting Service Awka, Nze Uche Nworah, among others.
