People from all walks of life recently gathered at the headquarters of Orumba South local Government Area, Umunze, to celebrate the twenty seventh anniversary of creation of the council.
During the occasion, illustrious sons and daughters of the council area were given chieftaincy titles and special merit awards, with the wife of the Governor, chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano receiving the chieftaincy title of “Olaedo Orumba South” from Ndi Igwe Orumba South.
Governor Willie Obiano represented by the Commissioner for Environment, Architect Mike Okonkwo in a remark, commended the entire people of Orumba South for their support noting that such will help his government record more achievements within their council area and reassured them of more democratic dividends under his tenure.
The member representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency,
Chief Ben Nwankwo, bagged the chieftaincy title of “Isingidi Orumba South”, while the member representing Orumba North in the state House of Assembly, Chief Romanus Obi, received special Merit award for his great contributions towards the development of the council.
While appreciating the organizers of the historic event, Chiefs Nwankwo and Obi, assured them of using their respective offices in attracting more government attention to their council area as they pledged more quality and effective representation.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Orumba South Transition Committee chairman, Chief Raymond Onyegu, appreciated Governor Obiano for his commitments towards the development of Orumba South and Anambra at large.
Chief Onyegu reassured ndi Orumba South of more dedicated and selfless service to help foster development within the council area.
On their part, the Traditional Ruler of Akpu, Igwe Marcel Okoli and president General of Umunze community, Mr. John Akanyeonu, commended the council chairman for the initiative and appreciated the founding
fathers of Orumba South for their remarkable contributions towards peace, progress and harmonious co-existence already existing in area.
Some of the recipients of the chieftaincy titles and awards during the occasion includes a political stalwart Chief Edozie Madu,
Commissioner for Environment, Architect Mike Okonkwo, Chairman Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Anambra state, Chief Damian Okeke -Ogene, among numerous others.
The late Igwe Mathias Ugochukwu of Umunze and late Igwe Timothy Madu of Owerre-Ezukala, were honoured with posthumous awards.
Masquerade displays and cultural dances entertained the large crowd that gathered for the event.
